Silver Spring

The Silver Spring Mineral Water Company Ltd is a family owned Private Company and was founded in 1870 as a result of the increasing demand for carbonated waters, which at the time were made by Pharmacists as a tonic.

Silver Spring is one of Britain’s oldest Mineral Water companies.

The original factory was built in Foord Road Folkestone in 1870 to take advantage of the excellent spring water available there. This Calcium Rich, high Quality Deep Well Water continues to be the basis of the company’s products to this day.

In 1970, almost exactly 100 years after building the first factory, the company built and moved to a new factory on our present site at Park Farm in Folkestone and has grown to become the largest privately owned Soft Drink Company in the UK.

Plastic PET Bottle production began in 1982. From the start the company made its own pre-forms and bottles, which is still unusual within today’s bottling industry.

The site has seen continuous expansion and now consists of over 14 acres of Factory, Warehousing and Support Facilities. The company employs over 260 staff and operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week throughout the year.

The total soft drink output is about 110,000 litres per hour, a large selection of sizes and packaging option are available across the product ranges.

In late 2000 a ‘state of the art’ Spring Water Line was installed. The line can fill Still and Carbonated Spring Water in a number of different sizes and packaging configurations. It can also fill flavoured Spring Water products through entirely separate filling machinery, which ensures that purity of our Spring Water is maintained.

The Silver Spring has a capacity of about 1,000,000 litres per day. Silver Water is drawn as nature intended from a natural spring adjacent to the factory. This high quality water is crystal clear and calcium rich having percolated over many years through several hundred feet of Chalk which forms the North Downs the extent of which can be seen as the famous White Cliffs of Dover a few miles to the East.

Silver Spring is unique within the UK in that the company makes all its own performs (the injection moulded first stage of plastic bottles), bottles and caps on site from PET and polythene granules.

The company is also unconventional in that it strives to achieve as much as possible from within its own resources.

By embracing and pioneering new technology to keep ahead of market trends it ensures that the company maintains a leading position within the industry. This is combined with the experience gained over more than 130 years of manufacturing, help to make our products second to none.

The company’s customer base includes major UK food retailers for whom they supply Own Label products as well as Silver Springs own brands .

The company has a number of its own leading brands and continues to develop and innovate new and exciting product ranges.
